Wood
and Engineered wood flooring
Both Solid Wood and Engineered flooring have similar
properties as they are both produced using wood. They
are both extremely durable and can last a long time
when looked after well. There is not much difference between solid wood flooring and engineered wood flooring unless you look really closely at the joins.
Why choose Engineered Wood?
If you would like to have wood flooring, but are worried about the maintenance and fitting, then engineered wood flooring could be for you. It is designed with layers and only with a thin layer of wood as a top layer. The layers are made in such a way that seasonal movement is kept to a minimum when installed.

Engineered
Wood Flooring
Engineered flooring is produced by with layers of
plastic laminate veneer and real wood. It is strengthened
by each ply running perpendicular to its adjacent
ply. As Engineered wood flooring has a
thin layer of wood strip on the top, it can be sanded
once or twice in it's lifetime.
Engineered Wood Flooring Installation
Engineered wood has a range of installation
options. The thinner varieties can be nailed down;
the thicker kinds can be installed as floating floors;
where no heavy staplers are needed and no sub-floor.
As long as your existing floor is level as well as
stable, you can install the floating floor on top. Go to Engineered Wood page >>
Solid Wood Flooring
Wood flooring comes in three main
types. Each type is available in both an unfinished
and a pre-finished version. Unfinished flooring must
be job-site sanded and finished after installation.
Pre-finished flooring is sanded and finished at the
factory -- so it only needs installation. The three
main types of solid wood flooring are: Strip flooring, Plank flooring, Parquet flooring.
Solid wood flooring can last many
years if looked after, and usually have between 5
and 30 years manufacturers guarantee. They have good
room acoustic properties and can be sanded down, and
recoated as many times as needed.
As the full thickness of the strip/plank/parquet
is solid wood, any large dents and deep scratches
can be removed by re-sanding and re-coating once again.
Wood flooring is very durable and easier than you
many think to take care of. It mainly just needs hoovering
and if really needed mopping with a damp mop. Go to Solid Wood page >> |
